Ski-U-Mah!

When people ask why I chose the University of Minnesota, my answer is simple: I love the community, the research opportunities, and especially the emphasis on inclusivity. My time at UMN has been the best experience of my life so far! I've learned not only about my future career but also about myself and what I'm capable of as a student and person. I'm incredibly grateful for the chance to explore my passions and how to give back to my community. Below are photos and descriptions of how I enriched myself during my time here.

As my time at the University of Minnesota comes to a close, it's hard to believe this chapter is ending. Beyond discovering my career path in communications and advertising, I also found a deep passion for Spanish studies & culture as well as cultural studies & comparative literature. I’m so grateful for these experiences that have shaped me into a more well-rounded person, and I look forward to applying what I’ve learned in my future career. I’ll especially never forget the friendships I’ve made along the way!

During my junior year, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the National Student Exchange program and chose to study at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I not only learned about Hawaiian culture, but also made lifelong friends. Studying away from my home campus gave me a new perspective on life, teaching me the value of keeping an open mind and giving back to others and our planet through volunteering. While I’ll miss Hawai'i, the lessons I learned will stay with me forever.

I started working at the University YMCA at the end of my freshman year, where we volunteered with elementary schools around Minneapolis. It was such a rewarding experience, getting to know and work with some incredible kids. I’ve always been passionate about helping and teaching children, as they are our future, and it’s important to help shape their lives in a positive way. After becoming a site lead within a year, my amazing boss, Patti Neiman, connected me with the YMCA in Hawai'i when I went on exchange. Working with Hawaiian elementary schools was an unforgettable, connective experience. I believe kids not only learn from us, but they can also teach us so much in return. I’m so grateful for the time I spent in this role during college.

In my second year at the University of Minnesota, I had the opportunity to apply for a student leadership enrichment trip to Israel & Palestine through MN Hillel. As a site lead at the UY, I was eligible, and to my excitement, I was accepted! This trip was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I learned so much about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which was challenging, but deeply enlightening. Despite some of the challenges navigating the conflict, visiting Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Bethlehem, and Palestine, I witnessed moments of love and humanity, which reminded me that peace is always possible, even amidst conflict.
